TotalDac

Euro Asiatique is the agent of TOTAL DAC for Taiwan.

The REFERENCE-D1 is the high end TOTALDAC product.  This is probably the ultimate DAC for the most demanding audiophile.  You can achieve a lot and the D1 offer a lot of option to meet many requirement.

It includes a DAC, a volume control, a USB input and an active crossover in option.

The D1 will be mounted with the high grade USB as standard staring this July 2012.

What they say :

It has been tested by Srajan from 6moons: D1 6moons audio review

Extract "The degree to which it bested what I knew (including APL Hifi, Audio Aero, dCS, EMM Labs, Esoteric, Weiss, Meitner and Zanden) was unexpected"

Specification:

-192KHz asynchronous Xmos USB, optical, RCA and AES-EBU digital inputs, selectable from a remote control.

-44.1KHz, 48KHz, 88.2KHz, 96KHz, 176.4KHz and 192KHz, 16 to 24 bit formats supported on all inputs except 96KHz max for optical input.

-3.3Vrms max RCA, XLR analog output and 32ohm-600ohm headphone amplifier. The xlr balanced outpout is supplied even withiut the dual dac option but in that case it is done using an analog inverter.

-digital volume control, adjusted by a remote control and an OLED display.

-phase polarity selected by remote control.

-non-oversampling FIR digital filter activated or disactivated by remote control.

-display switch off by remote control or automatic.

-all unused inputs are completely disconnected (including the ground) to keep the optimum noise floor even when several sources are connected.

-R2R DAC technology using VishayPG foil naked (VAR) 0.01% resistors, 100 resistors per stereo channel.

-class A, low impedance, discrete transistor output stage for the REFERENCE-D1 DAC.

-possibility to connect a headphone with an impedance higher than 60ohm and with xlr connectors directly to the balanced XLR output of the DAC. A way to get 6.6Vrms and get 4 time more power. Also allows to listen directly a headphone with the dual DAC option, a Sennheiser HD 800, an Audeze or a AKG K701 for example.
-external power supply to minimize the noise on the embedded preamp.

-aluminium and PMMA enclosure.
The Front panel in black is in PPMA.  The body is in black Aluminum.  A silver aluminum version is available but it is an option.

-controlled quantity of raw material, limited weight for the shipping, easy manipulation, 4kg unpacked.

-power consumption 20W.

-DAC dimensions DAC: height 110mm, width 360mm, depth 290mm.

-power supply dimensions: height 65mm, width 122mm, depth 180mm.

REM:  The high grade USB, now integrated by default.

Available options:

  • DUAL DAC, using 2 DACs per channel for a 100% balanced DAC. Available for REFERENCE-D1 and REFERENCE-D2 (for the mid-high channel in this case). Upgrades the XLR output only
    • A high quality transformer can transform the XLR signal to a RCA signal to allow to get the dual DAC sound with an amplifier which has only RCA inputs.
  • Silver massive aluminum front panel and silver lid.
  • High Grade USB, now integrated by default.
  • Adjustable 12dB/oct high pass filter for REFERENCE-D1, to attenuate sub bass to solve a room acoustics problem or to protect the loudspeakers or to remove sub bass when listening with a headphone or to remove the recording offset or to preserve neighbors or children at night.
  • Cone shape feets, custom made in France, in addition to the default rubber feet.
  • BNC coaxial digital input instead of RCA.

-REFERENCE-D2 and REFERENCE-D3 ,69 bits 2 way and 3 way active crossovers including a digital preamp for the main volume control and also for the relative level between bass, midrange and treble. The bass and midragne channel use RCA connectors. The mid-high or treble channel uses RCA and xlr (balanced) connectors. The crossover slope can be 6dB/oct, 12dB/oct or 18dB/oct. All parameters, crossover frequency, filter slope, relative volume, main volume, relative digital delay... can be controlled from the remote while listening to music.

-4 way active crossover or more, with or without dual DAC option, by associating several DAC boards.

USB input:

No driver installation is necessary for a MAC and Linux.

Under Windows a driver installation is necessary. A specific drivers will be provided. Please wait to have received the DAC before installing the Windows driver. During the installation the software will ask you to plug the USB device. So you will have to switch ON the DAC, push the button "4" on the remote control to select the USB input and plug the USB cable. Then follow the software instructions. Be careful because in some cases a window can hide another window which is waiting for you to push "OK".
